One or two of his wives maintained the home year around.

He came for the warm weather and to supervise the building of the St. George temple. He suffered from rheumatism and it helped to leave the cold of Salt Lake City. The home will give you a good idea of early pioneer construction.
The yard still grows some of the early crops: cotton, grape vines etc. In addition it also has a mulberry tree which was part of the silk production Brigham Young experimented with to help to improve the economy of the region.

The interior of Brigham Young’s home is filled with Victorian and early American originals or reproductions. Some belonged to the great church leader.

If you love antiques, you will enjoy this tour. I found it very interesting. One of the things I especially liked was the silk embroidery done with some of the locally made silk.

Brigham Young, himself a hobbyist furniture maker, constructed some fine examples of the pioneer-era rockers and chairs.

The Brigham Young winter home sits in a neighborhood of pioneer homes. Many of them are wonderfully restored. One of the homes was built by my great-great grandfather, Benjamin Blake.
The Young home sits in a neighborhood of pioneer homes. One of particular interest is the “Seven Wives Inn” kiddy-corner from the Young home. The original owner was a prominent lawyer in town how really did have seven wives. The mansion was built in 1873 and is filled with wonderful antiques. There is a pool and it is beautifully landscaped. A full breakfast is served.
