Lake Powell house boat rentals recommendations...
Where is America's favorite
houseboating destination? Lake Powell offers the best house boat
adventures, water skiing, and jet-skiing you will find anywhere on the planet.
Selecting a Lake Powell house boat turns your vacation into a Summer paradise
of swimming, house boating, water-skiing, and jet skiing. During the
Summer, temperatures rise into the 90's and 100's. This is when most
people plan their visits. Summer water-play is the main reason to make the
trek to Glen Canyon Dam National Recreational Area. Don't worry if you don't have your own water craft,
because Wahweap, Bullfrog and other marinas will rent jet skis and boats for
fishing, skiing, or house boating.
Visits during the other seasons would
be appropriate if you like to sight-see,
fish, hike, and take landscape photographs.
February through May is typically a
windy period and Chinook winds may blow day and night, which may be ideal
for sail-boating (but not for camping out on the sandy beaches).
Spring and Fall are great
times to hike into the
backcountry because the temperatures are more comfortable.
Hikers have a choice of easy day
trips or long wilderness backpack treks. The canyons of the Escalante rate
among America's premier hiking areas. Other good hiking spots within or
adjacent to Glen Canyon include Rainbow Bridge national Monument, Paria Canyon,
Dark Canyon, and Grand Gulch.
If you
plan on fishing make sure you know where you plan to be on the lake. Lake
Powell is on the Border of Utah and Arizona. Arizona lays claim to a small
portion of the lake (the southern five miles). So, if you have a Utah
license and your boat happens to drift over the border into Arizona, the rangers
could give you a ticket. If you plan to reserve a

What kind of fish might you expect
to catch from a Lake Powell house boat? Reports say bass (largemouth, smallmouth, and striped), pike
(northern and walleye), catfish, crappie, carp, bluegill, perch, and sunfish.
Winter temperatures are much
lower with highs between 40 and 50 degrees during the day and freezing
temperatures at night with the possibility of snow.
Lake water temperatures are
outstanding in the summer, much warmer than Southern California beaches.
In fact, a comfortable 80oF in August
is typical. But temperatures drop to a chilly 45oF
in January (watch out for icebergs).
Expect thunderstorms in late summer
which will also bring strong winds and
rain showers. But, this is a desert with annual precipitation averages about seven inches,
so the rain may come then quickly go during your visit.
One of the major attractions at Lake Powell is its beautiful surrounding
scenery. The landscape is famous for it's colorful cliffs that rise high
above the lake's surface. This region is part of the Colorado Plateau and
the many rock formations tell a story of ancient deserts, oceans, and rivers.
The Colorado river has carved out Lake Powell's beautifully canyons and
delicately balanced hoodoos (rocks on top of sedimentary layers). There are also graceful
natural arches and bridges which make this area a must see sight to visit.
The desert comes right to the edge of the water which also means great sandy
beaches to dock your
Lake Powell house boat so you can
set up camp and play. The Summer heat and fluctuating lake levels prevent plant growth along the shore.
