Helpful Landscape Photography
Tips...
My journey (thus far) of making
landscape photography more than just a hobby...
I knew landscape photography would be more than
"just a hobby" for me after visiting the
Thomas D. Mangelsen photo gallery in La
Jolla, California. That's when I decided to buy my first "expensive"
digital camera (a Sony consumer digital camera breakthrough of 8 megapixels).
At the time I had no idea about large format
film cameras. I just figured that an 8-megapixel photo could be blown up
into a 5-foot long panorama photograph similar to the ones he had displayed at
the gallery.
Four years later, I decided to get
serious. I finally upgraded to Digital SLR (I owned a Canon D5 for a brief time
before quickly upgrading to the Canon 1Ds Mark II with 16.7 megapixels) and
also purchased professional quality lenses. I have been on an exciting ride ever since.
I searched for all the information
I could get on landscape photography and read more books than I had since doctor
of physical therapy school. I also searched the internet and one site
always seemed to come up on top, Luminous
Landscapes.
This is where I found a landscape
photographer who has written many essays that are published on that website.
Without really knowing it, I also found his new book on amazon.com. I was
ecstatic that I had finally found what I had been searching for on landscape
photography.
After reading his book, I took him
up on his recommendation of finding a mentor from whom I could learn the tricks
of the trade. I found his website and noticed that he has workshops on
landscape photography and that he will also do one-on-one mentoring. I
will write more on this at a later time...

Any good photograph has two key elements, the subject taken, and the person
