Provo is home to Brigham Young University
(owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints). The tallest
building in Provo is 12 stories, located on BYU's campus. The Provo/Orem
Metropolitan area's population will surpass 500,000 within the next year or two.
This area is also known as Utah Valley.
People in Salt Lake City (40 miles to the north) sometimes call it "Happy
Valley" (in a derogatory manner) because of the high percentage of people of the
Latter-Day Saint faith in the region.
Most people travel to Provo to visit family or
attend an event at Brigham Young University.
Some places of interest include: Thanksgiving
Point, Cabella's Worlds Foremost Outfitter (second most visited tourist spot in
Utah), Seven Peaks Water Park and Ice Rink (a venue at the 2002 Winter Olympic
Games), LaVell Edwards Stadium (home of BYU Football), Stadium of Fire (4th of
July Celebration) and BYU Museums.
