St George
Utah Motels

Travelers stay in St George Utah motels to golf, play in the outdoors, or to getaway from the cold in Northern Utah...

Which St George Utah motels are recommended by Utah Trip Advisor?  Actually, our favorite is a Bed and Breakfast that we talk about below.  But first, let me tell you why vacationers stay in Saint George...

St. George is Utah's Winter vacation city.  Daily temperatures are about 10 to 20 degree Celsius hotter than the Wasatch Front region (which includes SLC, Provo, and Ogden metropolitan areas) because the elevation is closer to sea level.

Golf is enjoyable year-round in the St. George area.  There are ten golf courses to choose from, but Coral Canyon and Entrada at Snow Canyon are recommended by Utah Trip Advisor.  St. George was rated in the top ten of golf home markets in the Western United States by Golf Digest!

The town is in a little valley surrounded by striking red rock bluffs and black lava rock.  St. George is a very attractive city.

Staying in one of the St George Utah motels is also a great "base camp" for those wishing to visit Zion National Park and other outdoor recreational destinations in Southwestern Utah.  It is also where many high school students travel for Spring break (a time of the year that you would want to avoid if you are not 16-19 years old).

St. George (pop. more than 65,000) is a growing city and by far the largest town in Southern Utah.  In fact it is the largest city between Provo, to the north, and Las Vegas, to the south, a distance of more then 400 miles.

The mild winter climate and less stressful living environment have attracted many new residents, especially the retired.  The result has been the explosion of St George’s commercial district and new residential suburbs in every direction.

The added income has brought a renovated downtown area.  Statues adorn the historic section of town.  The city has added attractive landscaping along the city streets.  The city has many well-kept historic buildings, many with tours, that make it an interesting place to walk around.

The white sparkling St. George Temple sits in the center of town on a slight rise, so you can see it from many spots as you travel around town.

As with all Mormon Temples only members can enter the Temple, but there is a nice visitor center that has pictures of the interior.  It also has a copy of the Christus statue inside.  I enjoyed studying the replica of Jerusalem, in Christ’s time, that is there.  There are many different short movies which can be shown.  Right now they have one on Joseph Smith that is very well done.

If you want to visit other Mormon Church sites in and around St. George, ask for the map and descriptive pamphlet.

Close by to the temple is the Brigham Young winter home, where he spent his last five winters here starting in 1873, and continued doing so until his death in 1877.

The Young home sits in a neighborhood of pioneer homes.  One of particular interest is the “Seven Wives Inn" (One of the St George Utah Motels we recommend) kiddy-corner from the Young home.  This is one of the St George Utah motels that we recommend.  The original owner was a prominent lawyer in town how really did have seven wives.  The mansion was built in 1873 and is filled with wonderful antiques.  There is a pool and it is beautifully landscaped.  A full breakfast is served.

The St. George Tabernacle, on the corner of Main and Tabernacle streets, is one of the most interesting of St. George Structures.  It has fine stonework, outside, and an elegant pioneer interior.

LDS Tabernacle in Saint George, Utah

Shortly after their arrival in the harsh St. George desert, settlers began work on the tabernacle.  It is built of red sandstone and white plaster covers the inside walls.  The pine wood is skillfully painted to look like hardwood.

When you go on the tour of the tabernacle notice the decorative friezes of cotton blossoms and grape clusters on the balcony.  Cotton and grapes were crops grown by the early pioneers.  Ask the guide about the “seeing eye” painted on the front wall.  Often, there are concerts given at noon in the Tabernacle, and also in the evening.  Tours are given free, daily from 11 to 5.

Here are some of our Utah Trip Advisor recommendations for your stay at one of the St George Utah motels...
