The Best Deals are on Sundance rent-by-owner properties. There are only a handful of private-owners who are attempting to rent their property at Sundance, but the best deals are found with these for-rent-by-owner properties. They can afford to give you a discounted rate when they rent their condo or mountain home to you, let me explain why...
A property owner's only other alternative is placing their mountain home or condo into the "Sundance rental pool." If a property is managed and rented by Sundance Resort, they charge the private owner a management fee of 55% of the profit after management expenses, and then add additional fees. Owners who place their properties in the Sundance rental pool are not allowed to rent to the public or anyone else.
Sundance Resort raised their rates 10% in 2007. So this again gives you the opportunity to stay in a rent-by-owner property for a significantly reduced amount. (A much bigger difference than the free breakfast that the resort offers.)

More for your money with Sundance rental-by owner. Sundance rentals, when reserved directly through an owner, are generally larger in square footage and can have better amenities. For example, for the same price as a Sundance Mountain Suite (reserved through the resort) that has 900 square feet of living space, you can rent a 3000 square foot mountain home from a private owner.
