Vernal Utah Hotels
Staying in one of the Vernal Utah Hotels is
a good base camp for adventures to Dinosaurland, Green River Rafting, and Flaming
George...
Vernal Utah Hotels recommended by Utah Trip Advisor.
Vernal does not have the same
exciting atmosphere of Moab, but it is the largest town in northeastern Utah,
the Uinta recreation area or
Dinosaurland.
Vernal has a few decent motels to choose from, nothing spectacular. The
biggest attraction in the town is a dinosaur museum.
I would call
Vernal a "pass-through" town... Fill your gas tank, buy your food, stop off at
the Dinosaur museum (it won't take more than an hour or two to see everything).
Or, you could use Vernal as your base for sleeping, while you take day trips to Flaming George or
Dinosaur National Monument .
Vernal does have a commercial
airport with flights from Salt Lake City and Denver.
Flaming George is a family
favorite, it is an excellent choice for a vacation destination. Don't miss
the dam tour and rafting down the Green River.
Dinosaur National Monument is in
Utah and Colorado. The thing I remember most (we traveled there a few
times when I was a kid) was an enclosed exhibit wall covered with dinosaur
bones. There were actual paleontologists there uncovering dinosaur bones.
Checking the
Dinosaur National Monument
website, they state that "the main exhibit wall of dinosaur fossils is closed."
Since this is the most enticing attraction, I do not
recommend a trip to Dinosaur National Monument until it re-opens...
Instead I high recommend a trip to
Flaming Gorge National Recreation Area.
Suggestions:
1.
Go to Flaming Gorge Reservoir.
2. Visit the Dam,
take the dam tour.
3. Raft the Green
River.
4. Cliff jumping at
Flamingo Gorge is great fun.
