We decided to drive into town without reservations to see what we could find. I wanted something quiet, but spacious, because we had our four kids with us. A bed and breakfast sounded relaxing, but I didn’t know if we could do it with the kids.
We found our Zion National Park lodging at Under the Eaves. While driving through town we saw the sign and decided to stop to get more information. The house is owned by Steve and Deb Masefield, and they were wonderful hosts. We were told that normally they don’t allow kids under five to stay, out of respect of the other guests. But because it was the slow season, they made an exception for us.
I was frazzled when we first started unloading the car, because our two youngest kids were exhausted from the long day and they were crying. But Steve helped us unload and once we got into our suite, I started to unwind and relax.
We chose to stay in the biggest room they had, The Eaves Suite, because it had room for our whole family. I absolutely loved it! It had an old fashioned pot belly stove, which kept the room warm all night. There was also a kitchen, a huge dining table, and a trundle bed for the kids.
My 10 year old daughter was excited because she found board games, puzzles and books. My husband was excited because he had access to high speed wireless internet in the room.
My favorite part of the room was the bathroom. It had an antique bathtub with a European-style shower. After I got the kids to bed that night, I was able to relax in the tub for a while.
The next morning, Steve and Deb had breakfast waiting for us. We had homemade waffles, sizzling sausage, fresh fruit, muffins, juice, and hot chocolate. It was wonderful! My kids loved it too, because they were all well behaved at the table as they devoured the scrumptious food!
As we ate breakfast, Steve explained where the best locations were to get awesome pictures of Zion. He was really knowledgeable about the area, and was able to answer all our questions.
If you’re ever in this area and need Zion National Park lodging, I highly recommend staying with Steve and Deb at their beautiful bed and breakfast. Reservations are highly recommended. You can visit their site at: http://www.under-the-eaves.com.
Another option is the Zion Lodge within the park.
